Running and steering
Availability factor
The monthly availability report, calculated instead of retyped.
The situation
A plant’s availability factor is calculated today in a spreadsheet, from readings retyped by hand. Every site has its own sheet, formulas and habits. The result is hard to audit, impossible to consolidate, and a single entry error propagates all the way to the board report.
What the module does
An indicator reference matching the official nomenclature, and a calculation engine where formulas are configured rather than hard-coded.
Web entry by site and by month, then a report put through an approval workflow with electronic signature.
The rule that makes the difference
Aggregating across equipment is always done by totalling — sum of numerators over sum of denominators — never by averaging ratios already calculated. That is the correct method, and precisely where spreadsheets go wrong.
Key benefits
- A figure traceable back to the entry that produced it
- The same method on every site, so comparisons mean something
- An approved and signed report, with no parallel circuit
